Tyler is a freshman this year at The Bush Upper School in Seattle, Washington. He has one leg. He lost the other leg to a battle with cancer a couple of years ago, and they thought that this amputation had completely removed it.
Unfortunately, they were mistaken.
This year, Tyler's cancer came back. He had to be pulled from the school so that he could undergo treatment. The student body and faculty were terribly shaken. No one had ever had to be taken out because of an illness before.
To show our sympathy and compassion for him, we came up with the 1000 Cranes idea. For this, there was a table with a thousand sheets of origami paper. Every time that a student, or anyone in the school, walked by, they folded one paper crane for Tyler. The idea was to get 1000 folded, colorful cranes, and when we reached that goal, they would be delivered to Tyler.
Last month, the cranes were finished. These pictures show the final product that the 260 students in our Upper School produced. There is artwork and pictures of Tyler surrounding the masterpiece. He continues his battle today and stays in our every thought.
Stay strong, Tyler!
