Cathryn Wellner commented on PamKM's blog post 'U.S. Congress Passes Historic Healthcare Bill!'
The Obama effort to get ordinary citizens to add their names to the record as supporters of the signing of the bill was brilliant marketing. As an American living outside the country, I was thrilled. Making health care available to all is the mark…

Thanks, Pam. I must say this wonderful Ning often makes me wish I were in Seattle to take advantage of all the gatherings and actions happening there.

Storytelling became a passion for me while I was living in Rochester, New York, and then during many years in Seattle. That has never waned and eventually became my narrative approach to community development.

Years operating a small farm and then a small ranch in British Columbia taught me about the strength, intelligence, and compassion of chickens, geese, turkeys, pigs, sheep, cows, mules, horses, and...yes...camels.

That led to a passion for justice in our food system - for farmers, farm workers, all who eat, and for land, air, and water. As a consultant and then a health authority employee, I worked many years with community food action groups throughout British Columbia.

Most recently I developed a food security Web site for the provincial government. I continue to give presentations on food systems issues.

Life continues to be endlessly fascinating.

Hi - I am writing to ask for your support in creating a compassionate world. When I started the Compassionate Action Network I was hoping that social networks could be part of how we activate the will and find a way to make just and lasting change. I am grateful that you joined this network and I sincerely hope that it has made some difference in your life and your community.

It was the action part of compassionate action that got my attention. So now I invite you to be part of taking another step forward together. I ask that you take two minutes to join the 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities if you haven’t already.

We need 1,000 people to join by March 15 to have the Mayor and City Council follow through on their end. If you personally join the campaign and share or send this on to others we will take a big collective step forward in building our capacity to make change happen. This is not just another petition, what you do will make a difference. You can learn more about this here

You don’t need to be a Seattle resident to join this campaign, and this idea is spreading. Campaigns have started or are starting in Vancouver, BC, Bellingham, Bellevue, Issaquah, Spokane, Portland, San Francisco, and London.

If there ever was a time to stand together and affirm that what each of us does and does not do makes a difference it is now. I ask that you find the time to add your name to the growing list of people awakening compassion in our cities and our world. Join here now
