I think what is missing is explicitness about what you are signing up to do. In my head it is a "good" thing... but there is no commitment, or future commitment. Even if you can't track the commitments right now people need to do…

Hi - I am writing to ask for your support in creating a compassionate world. When I started the Compassionate Action Network I was hoping that social networks could be part of how we activate the will and find a way to make just and lasting change. I am grateful that you joined this network and I sincerely hope that it has made some difference in your life and your community.

It was the action part of compassionate action that got my attention. So now I invite you to be part of taking another step forward together. I ask that you take two minutes to join the 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities if you haven’t already.

We need 1,000 people to join by March 15 to have the Mayor and City Council follow through on their end. If you personally join the campaign and share or send this on to others we will take a big collective step forward in building our capacity to make change happen. This is not just another petition, what you do will make a difference. You can learn more about this here

You don’t need to be a Seattle resident to join this campaign, and this idea is spreading. Campaigns have started or are starting in Vancouver, BC, Bellingham, Bellevue, Issaquah, Spokane, Portland, San Francisco, and London.

If there ever was a time to stand together and affirm that what each of us does and does not do makes a difference it is now. I ask that you find the time to add your name to the growing list of people awakening compassion in our cities and our world. Join here now

Hi Jody -- I appreciate your input and suggestions, they are all good. We don't have the resources to capture the pledges yet - I have revised the text to make it clearer for now. How is this for a tow paragraph description:

Inspired by the April 2008 “Seeds of Compassion”, the Compassionate Action Network (CAN) was formed. CAN is a network of self-organizing groups who share a common vision for a compassionate world and are committed to supporting each other’s activities, events, and expressions in the world, be it public, nonprofit, for-profit, or social enterprises.

The Compassionate Action Network is launching the “Ten Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities” as a way to collectively act to multiply individual power and co-create positive change in our community. The campaign will strengthen our capacity to “do it ourselves” while building a social-organizing platform. The hope is that Seattle's example of community organizing will “go global.”
