With respect to prisons, there are two questions of interest to me. First, why are people incarcerated in the first place? Second, given that they're incarcerated, why are they treated the way they are within the institutions? My work attempts to explore both questions and is directed at significant change in the penal system as well in other venues where violence is a concern.

I suppose having a brother who has "done time" influences my interest.
