It works if people share their stories of WHAT'S WORKING? (an Appreciative Inquiry)  Then a critical mass is assembled that shows the life force in action.

Question I am happily engaged in....In what ways does the spirit of festival enhance our practice of compassion?

I am hoping I am doing this correctly..although I realize the whole idea of "correct" is inhibiting!!!:-) I 'm going to copy and paste this in here to spark some conversation (or is this the optimal space?? I'm not sure...)

Here are notes I took from a recent conversation Mark, Candi and I had. See what they spark in YOU! I sense they augment Phil Lane's insights (which accurately reflect my experience too) "Starting from within, sitting in circle in a sacred manner, we develop and heal ourselves, our relationships and the world."

FESTIVAL NOTES:
Festival in a self-organizing world arises from engaging in what you love and expressing joy in relationships.
The essence of festival: The life force enacted practically through authenticity and celebration.
The "Calling" of festival is an invitation to catch the spirit. And that spirit is the life force.
Joy is the perception of the life force being present.
The spirit of festival is essential to the development of collective leadership.
The festival "Calling" brings forth Me/We, the foundation of collective leadership. (even if it is bad grammar!).
People who live festival understand celebration, create/experience gracious space,
Festival is a Legacy practice using all intelligences.

Effects of Culture:
Does the dominant expression of consciousness circumscribe the expression of Festival in any given culture? Probably.
High celebration cultures have festivals marking transitions in life cycle, planetary cycles, etc.
High spiritual cultures have Namaste. Taking the moment to celebrate. Moment to moment, as well as expressing festival in rituals honoring all beings, non-beings, planet, cosmos transitions.
Acknowledging and practicing festival liberates the capacity for celebration from whatever the constraints are in collective cultures.

Some thoughts about festival in organizational cultures:
Festival liberates organizational cultures from constraints of dominant cultural norms.
In most organizational cultures “We” decide what gets formally celebrated. AND “you” improvise celebrations privately.
Democratizing celebration is a direct threat to the control modality of the bosses.
The democratizing process brings you up against the power structure that wants to hold on.

A Festival Index is important in compassionate collective leadership, and so is the HSLing Index.
What would a Festival Index look like? I invite you to ADD or play with these ideas!! Please!

HSLing Around the world

Mark Jones and Ashley Cooper have created a very accessible matrix for HSLing (a compassionate practice that Mark was inspired to create when charged by the Dalai Lama to "Teach the children peace." You can get a copy of that material from Ashley Cooper whom I will ask to post it here.

This is a report on my experience of teaching HSLing to seniors at The Modern School in Delhi India. FYI The Modern School is close to Connaught Circle on a 28 acre campus. It was founded ninety years… Continue

Anne — Thanks so much for getting back to me. I completely understand. I'm sure we can find someone to put Circus of Love people up for a few days. We can coordinate times that are convenient for everyone so that you have an opportunity to get together with them. — Ari

Dear One, thank you for your welcome!

Where do you see the action (in this network or outside of it) for high-impact systemic change that would address the root cause of why this network is needed in the first place?
