DETAILS:

Main Event: 9am – 5pm - Compassion Showcase and Exchange

The daytime event will include a keynote address by Karen Armstrong and the official, historical signing of the proclamation that will make the City of Seattle the first city in the world to sign the Charter for Compassion! This will be followed by a Compassion Showcase with additional inspirational speakers such as James O'Dea and Courtney E. Martin, and panel dialogues with organizations that are on the ground increasing compassion in our region. Topics include:

  1. Personal & Inter-generational Compassion
  2. Compassion in Businesses and Institutions
  3. Thriving Communities and Caring for the Earth
As part of the ten-year campaign for compassionate cities, throughout the day, there will be a Compassion Exchange, an opportunity to interact with a marketplace of organizations that are increasing compassion in our schools, institutions, community and for the earth. Attendees will be able to learn more about the featured compassionate organizations and pledge their personal gifts (time, talent or treasure) to support the ongoing work of the organizations. Together, we will build a more compassionate community!

Tales of Compassion Room:
As part of the report back to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, there will be a room set up on April 24th for video and dialogue where you can tell your tales of compassion. But, please, don’t wait to tell us
about great compassionate organizations or stories using our online survey.

Evening Celebration and Performance: 5- 7:30pm: Join local artists, musicians, politicians and actors as we express and celebrate a more Compassionate Seattle. Musical acts and performances to be announced shortly.

Other details: Anyone from outside of Seattle is welcome to join us. This event might inform a 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities in your own city.
