The NY Times has a very interesting story on the Gross National Happiness movement in the kingdom of Bhutan. It's especially interesting in view of last night's program with actor Michael J. Fox, who is known for dealing nobly with Parkinson's Disease. As part of his exploration of "optimism," Fox went to Bhutan, and commented that he had noticed a remarkable reduction in his symptoms while there; he was feeling a lot better, even when making the climb to Tiger's Nest (a famous retreat place, very difficult to access). Sure sounds like cultivating compassion helps spread happiness!
