Proposal for Compassion Investment Groups (CIGs)

I was motivated to think of CIGs, when I kept seeing reports from people returning to the USA from Haiti that everywhere they went in the earthquake zone, Haitians said they had gone for days and weeks without receiving assistance from anyone.

When disaster strikes, it is difficult to know where to invest your donations so they will have the most immediate and/or long term impact. Compassion Investment Groups (CIGs) would investigate and review donation options similar to the way investment clubs research ways to make profits:

CIGs could be all virtual or virtual+localized so members could meet face-to-face.
CIG members could choose to invest individually or vote to invest together in worthy initiatives, such as this shelter designed for Haiti.
CIGs could track the "performance" of their donations.
CIGS could rank relief organizations' likely performance based on information available through public reporting agencies such as Guidestar , Network for Good , and from field reports indicating which are best prepared on the ground to deliver aid in a specific crisis.
CIGs could contribute their new knowledge to initiatives such as CrisisWiki.

You might considering bringing the CIG concept to the CAN event on April 24th event at the Center for Spiritual Living in Seattle. There will be an inventory of Compassion-related projects and you can add the CIG idea to the list. Thanks.
