Compassionate Action Network

Another friendly installment of Voices of Compassion coming from the corner in Davis, California, U.S.A.

Compassion - to suffer with (literally) but when I use this word I guess I'm referring to an appreciation for the well-being of others -- not just people. To have compassion is to approach the universe with a deep concern and commitment to healing wounds, comforting suffering, enhancing joy, and challenging others to do the same. As I understand it, the word is about a feeling, but when I use it, I'm referring also to a set of actions provoked by that feeling.

To see the world through another's eyes, then return to yourself and remember the divine light in that person.

Compacion: Es estar en Las Vuenas y malas sin esparar nada acambio del quien mas lo negecita de todo corazon -- sin esperar nada acambio.

Compassion is a "journey together" of souls, individuals to the end that life in general, and survival in particular, is enhanced for all who are joined, much greater than merely feeling sorry for another, compassion requires real connection.

A behavioral disposition that probably evolved under selection for behavior that fosters (self-interested) fitness in an evolutionary sense, but that may well work in our new, culturally-evolved living situation in a way that is more somewheat more selfless than the sources of selection originally favoring its evolution.

When you are going through your day, people should be aware of others around them and be sure they are not just welking by situations/people that could be helped by something you could provide. Compassion is making every attempt to participate in the world around you, not being a bystander.

Compassion is the deep and personally meaningful sharing of feeling; it is the transcendence of the self and the other and the momentary resolution of this binary opposition.
