Compassionate Action Network

More from the corner in Davis, California, U.S.A. --

Selflessness to the point of caring and suffering for the suffering of others (whether you kow them or not.) Having compassion for humanity is more about accepting that you (the individual) are but a grain in the sand, and so you're struggling so that the grains of sand can all together receive sunlight. Every grain hopes to get to the ocean, but only several get in the ocean. Compassion is accepting that life is mysterious in its unfair nature and if life is suffering, then having compassion would mean to work towards that truth and believing that we're lucky to not be in the doom that our brothers are in. Many ppl today... I wonder what compassion means to them when I don't refer to pity....

Compassion is being ever present with a kind ear.

One of the many definitions of compassion that I find insightful is, well, it's etimology "feeling together." Being able to feel and understand at a visceral level what other beings are living through. What you do with that is another story.

Compassion is the ability to love without exchange, to care without reason and share without caring.

Life is hard. Suffering is inevitable in any cause or relationship we choose to involve ourselves in. Humanity is born lost. We have failed numerous times to save ourselves. Love is all that can make life bearable, survivable - fruitful.

Compassion is entering into a state of having no enemy images of myself or others. It is a state of joining with another or oneself in love and care. In this place the giver and the receiver are one in the same.

Compassion is opening your heart to everything.

May peace prevail on earth. Power of silence. Power of pure love.

Thanks David. I'm back from vacation. In addition to these fascinating posts, it would be nice to have a place on the CAN home page where I can feature one quote from Davis (and elsewhere) each week. I'll mention this in the communications group.
