During March on Washington in 1963, atop the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood before 200,000 supporters to call for racial equality in what would become the defining moment of the African-American civil rights movement and a turning point in human history.
Dr. King was one of history's most iconic activists and orators. He led the non-violent civil rights movement that brought racial segregation in the United States to an end.
Monday, January 18th is a federal holiday in the U.S. to honor Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday.
